Nice place, very nice staff. Clean rooms.
The next morning we came down for breakfast to find a rather dull breakfast spread. My husband put FruitLoops into a bowl and proceeded to pour milk into the bowl (from a glass container) only to discover the milk was bad (sour smell and curding)!! So that was thrown away and ended up eating toast for breakfast. I notice they have a waffle maker, but I couldn't find any batter. Again, had to call out HELLO to the front desk and the same guy from the night appeared with a friend (the clerk in gym clothes and the friend in street clothes). He apologized and said the waffler batter dispenser was broke and he would have to make the batter himself. So he disappeared into the back room. He came back with a cup of batter for me to make the waffles. I then informed him that the milk was bad and he apologized and said the hotel is "short-staffed right now" and that the "manager and another co-worker we out of town on a family reunion trip". He then handed me a gallon of milk (not expired) for me to pour a glass of milk from. I noticed no large plates so the friend started looking in the cupboards for me. I grabbed the syrup bottle and discovered the expiration date said December 2015!!!! I informed the gentleman that the bottle is expired but he then produced a larger bottle of syrup (non-expired) and said they just refill the smaller bottle. So I informed him that it would be in there best interest to get a new bottle and/or remove the 2015 expiration date. (AFTER THOUGHT: If they refill the small plastic container do they even wash it?? Probably not - EWWW!) He again apologized and explained the hotel was short staffed.
Okay, but would not stay again.
The hotel and my room were fine. The internet was surprisingly quick. I speed tested and got about 60mbps. My bed comforter had a cigarette burn. There was no breakfast at 7:30, though advertised it should have been there until 9:00 am.
Arrived Friday afternoon (2:30 pm) to an empty desk. I could hear the clerk talking behind the closed office door. There was a bell at the desk that stated "please ring for service". Hit the button twice with no response and could still here the clerk talking behind the door. Had to call out HELLO three times before he opened the door and came out - in GYM CLOTHES attire!! I had requested a first floor room since I was traveling with an infant (which required bringing a pack n play and other items) and the facility had no elevator. They were unable to accommodate me. LAME! So we had to carry everything up to the second floor. Our room was HOT upon entering and it took a bit for it to cool down. Left around 3:30 pm and arrived back around 8pm to the same clerk standing outside a room with the window screen popped out leaning against the building - with a friend and they appeared to be smoking.
Left around 12:30 and returned around 9pm that night to the same front desk clerk and his buddy standing outside next to the same room with the window popped out.
I ate my waffle and drank my milk and we went back to our room. Around 11 am I went to find housekeeping to ask for more towels only to discover the front desk clerk and his friend were doing housekeeping!?!?
Clean, quiet, not outdated. Good stay!
Checked out of the hotel Sunday morning to yet again the same clerk. So either this guy is the only guy who works or lives there???
For a sold out hotel I think they should have been better staffed (front desk, housekeeping, breakfast clerks) and made sure their employees were dressed as such. I strongly think the manager made a poor decision to leave town that weekend and not stay and help his employee out if they were that short staffed!!!
Overall the room wasn't awful. The shower curtain rod had a hole around it coming from the wall....and the TV remote was hit and miss on working. I could also see some spots on the bedspread which left me questioning how often it is washed.
I went in with my daughter's to block some rooms for their wedding. The front desk attendant was amazing. He was very helpful in explaining the process and answering questions. He also set up for us to take a look at all of the rooms that the hotel had available. I will be confidently suggesting this hotel to all family and friends looking for a place to stay in Evansville.
